UPDATE PLEASE READ: SAHA ASSOCIATION

To All Associated with SAHA (parents, players, coaches, etc),

This message is in regard to COVID-19 "pause" and the members of the Alaska Oilers and South Anchorage Hockey Association's.

Effective Monday, October 12th, 2020, we will "return to play". All members events, practice, games, etc. will return as scheduled.

If you or your player have any symptoms of COVID-19 please make sure that you take the appropriate measures; social distancing, testing, self isolation and/or quarantine.

We are asking that ALL members of our association continue to follow both the municipalities, association and facilities mitigation guidelines, rules and regulations.

We as an association are requiring that ALL of our members (players, coaches and parents) continue to do the following:

  • We are asking ALL members wear a mask at all times while in the facilities. Players must wear a mask before and after being on the ice while in the facilities (masks are not required while on the ice)
    • NO Mask: NO Hockey.
  • We are asking all members wash hands/use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the facilities.
  • We are asking all members arrive to each event 15 minutes prior to start time.
  • We are asking that all skaters come to the rink with a majority of their hockey gear on. We will NOT be using locker rooms.
  • We are asking that everyone adhere to the social distancing guidelines that are in place by both the facility and our association.
  • We are asking that all spectators practice appropriate physical distancing while in the facility with others.
  • Contact tracing shall take place.
  • We are requiring each team to do temperature checks prior to entering the facilities. Anyone with a temp higher then 100.4 degrees will not be allowed to participate.
  • Stay home if you or anyone that you have been in contact with has shown any symptoms.
  • If a player or coach tests positive for COVID, the entire team is required to quarantine for 14 days from last contact.
  • Any member with a positive test, or secondhand contact to a positive person must report to the team’s Coach, Manager, and Association.

COVID Questions to address prior to ALL events:

  1. Have you experienced the development of any cold or flu symptoms in the last 14 days (fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat)?
  2. In the past 10 days, have you received a positive result from a COVID test?
  3. To the best of your knowledge, have you had close contact (within 6 feet for at least 10 minutes) with, or cared for, someone diagnosed with COVID-19 within the last 14 days?
  4. Have you traveled out-of-state in the past 14 days, without compliance to Municipal guidelines?
  5. Do you have a temperature of greater than 100.4 degrees?

If you, or anyone in your household, reports a ‘yes’ response to any of the previous questions, please remain home and refer to COVID guidelines below.

From the CDC:

  1. If your player has a high-risk symptom (i.e. fever-even low grade, cough, shortness of breath or loss of taste or smell), they should get a COVID test and cannot return unless it is negative, or 10 days after symptoms have resolved.
  2. If your player has low risk symptoms (congestion, diarrhea, sore throat), they need to stay home until their symptoms are improving.
  3. If your child has close contact (10 minutes or more within 6 feet of a positive person, regardless of mask wearing) they need to quarantine for 14 days from the time of LAST CONTACT.
  4. If your player has a secondhand contact (ie your coworker is positive and your child is around you) they can come to the rink unless they develop symptoms, then the above applies.

We will continue coordinating in accordance with state and national guidelines in response to COVID-19 in order to promote a safe and healthy environment for all of our members. We have and will continue to work closely with the facilities to ensure all players safety both on and off the ice.

Thank you,
Dane Smulick
President - South Anchorage Hockey Association

Hockey Community Support Needed

As many in our hockey Community know, the Bayshore Elementary ice rink was deemed unsafe and removed recently by the Anchorage School District. A committee has been created to help facilitate the design and rebuild of the rink but they need help from the Anchorage Community to help secure the funding needed to make the rebuild happen!!
